Easliy the longest living creatures on this earth, the oldest is close to 6000 years old. Here in the White Mountains, above tree level, would be an ideal location for a a certain kind of hardy tree that survives by avoiding other trees or other living things that could pose harm, like fungus and insects.
By growing very slowly – the tree rings are extremely closely spaced, and, by letting dessicated secctions of the tree die off – it survives in a difficult place longer than most all life.
