Performance art. That’s where America is at when it comes to activism. Although people were waiting for, this was no Chicago convention of 1968. Many of the predicted huge protest that were called for, became dwarfed by the police presence. Mostly people stood in their groups or individually and simply expressed themselves in variations in degrees of filtering from the extremely direct to the completely bizarre.
The 2016 Republican Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, was the beginning of Trumpism, that would eventually shake things up to a point of a republican extremist ideology becoming almost mainstream, at least, to a certain type of patriot, we’re speaking of emulating patriots from three centuries previous? Th e world has change enormously since 1776, but not with originalism. And turning the clock back.
The commies burned the flag very publicly, as they always do, only to be falsely arrested and a another big media event – the purposeful burning of the flag, where, amidst the liberal protestors and cops, then the “perpetrators” or communists as they call themselves, are arrested, charges, of course, get dropped, the communists sue and win money for false arrest, etc., because this was decided by the Supreme Court, long ago as an act of freedom of expression, quite the show, by all sides.
It wasn’t exactly Chicago 1968, this was the 2016 version, largely performance art, unlike stacking the Supreme Court with extremists and changing our world.
The government went around town where antifa were staying and literally warned them. Just two years later, this would have been very different, and by 2020, it would have been war in the streets.
It was a performance art whether it be commies, right, left or just plain stupid. But, with Trump in office, doing his weird-ass thing, there was little performance art done, unless you consider Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions a performance, but Trump’s move to hold a bible up with a church in the background, one that supported, not hm, but the protestors, and where, he ha previously requested the the military quell the protestors, even asking if it was all right to shoot them, then shoot to wound. An example of a man with little knowledge of how government works or history, itself. I do not like politicians and I equate the word with everything dishonest and self-serving. Neither conservative nor liberal, but truthful.
(The price I paid to attend the protest was 15,00.00 because a Cleveland tow truck driver ran a red light and I slammed into him, destroying completely my ride, and causing serious damage to my body and health. He beat it because when he went to court, after admitting he ran a red light, the cop (purposely) didn’t show up. 13,000 for another used car to do my work and get back home to New York.)
This same city hungered for anything that would give it national attention. Later, in 2020, they would welcome Trump and Biden to debate, where much larger and smarter cities passed on the “opportunity.” Surer enough the Cleveland Clinic, of all places, invites an unmasked Donald Trump and family, in an event where he acted like a snorting belligerent pig. The Clinic might have been a hero if they enforced their own mask mandates, because Trump tested positive right after the debates. But the Clinic in Cleveland, only enacted their vax mandates in January 2022, at the height of the pandemic. It turns out the Clinic had thousands of anti-vexers, who got to protect all their own little subjectivities regarding health, because health is business and the Clinic need all the workers they had and could get, so they let the mandates pass until they couldn’t any longer.
That’s the actual setting, the city that hosted the convention, is, itself unusual, it’s history, and particularly its endemic culture that was interesting until it became too endemic, as in, people had crawled up their asses, now doing only things good for them, and the little world that they inhabit. They’ve become intolerant beyond belief.
It was all about on all sides. Republicans would become the party of performance art with Gaetz, Gopher, Greene, Boebert, including an army media conspiracists like Alex Jones. performance art
If you want an example of action, the energetic, belligerent Donald Trump had the supreme opportunity to stack the Supreme Court, that is now changing so much, as a secretive body of nine people whose term is as long as they want. for me, was somewhat questionable, in the art world, but in politics, an institution defined by double-talk, misinformation, inherently, built for lies, just give me something else like an activism that performs real acts in the world according to what that want as individuals.
