The station became noted for the ivey that grew over it and that was let go, like the building. In 2021, the vines were killed.
Don’t let the decay for you. The area just behind the old train station was transformed years ago at concrete park. To the left across the street is a new park, very impressive one, I can take you along the Bronx River and passed the famed twin Scherzer rolling with bridges crossing the Bronx River and up into a park that was, in fact, the old Starlight Amusement Park. Curiously, Starlight Park, itself was considered industrial-looking. The Bronx River in this area was lined with industry, and still is once you go south of Westchester Ave.
