Every New Year’s, the author records clebratory gun shots in one of America’s top crime cities. Starting with cassette recorders, reel-to-real nagras, dat tape, and, now, fully digital compact field recorders. Like with cameras, recorders can now be dropped at a location and record easily for up to 15 hours.
While retreiving one of my recorders at 2:00 am on New Year’s day, from inside an abandoned house, i fell, down a flight of stairs, with the brunt of the force on my wrist. Just off chemo, i was in a low point physically, and it was one of a string of accidents that began in 2023, and, with this one, on the first day of 2024.
