The cross, once positioned on the highest steeple of St. Michael’s church, is now on display inside the church, as part as an effort to fix it and hoist back to the top of the steeple which stands 286 feet ove the streeets below.
The bullet reference is because in this city certain folks are capable of using a copper cross as a target for their rifle practice.
When built the steeple was the tallest structure in the city, which, back then, was a big deal with Catholic ethnic parishes, particularly German and Polish.
