Sports, a corporate category slow to embrace the inclusive and pc thing, as most all corporations are very pc. Slow, but the worm does turn that way, perhaps flipping, but only because it might, one day, make business sense.
A compromise worked out with the commissioner, resulting in an all-star game played in Cleveland in 2019, began to soften the stance of ownership a bit. Ownership got rid of the Chief himself and kept the name Indians. The entire Indian premise was terminated in 2021.
But if an owner is partnered with an American corproration, with naming rights to a stadium or even an ownership interest or partnertship, than Indians are not good for business, unless, of course, they’re respected. American corporations, some of the biggest, are run by fabulously “liberal” billionaires, and times have changed.
Products used in sports and sold in sports stadiums are made by the most politically correct and profitble corporations – Nike, Coke, Pepsi, even FedEx which was instrumental in pushing out the Redskins moniker.
