In April, 2016, Pedro Rodriguez shakes the hand of Robert Roche, an American Indian and community activist. This was a big deal, because of what happened in 2014. It went viral and went national, and of course was a nasty thing for Pedro to go through, and, I believe, that the publicity from that convinced the owner that something must change,Briefly recognizing, also, the power of a picture done with the camera.
While shooting the Chief Wahoo demonstrations every year, in 2016, Pedro, surprisingly, showed up, and walked directly to the protesters many of whom are Native Americans, and went straight to one of their leaders, Mr. Roche, put out his hand and apologized. They talked and then they embraced.
The quality of Pedro’s character, realizing, after the fact, if they were bigger dimensions something like rooting for your favorite team. I don’t believe any of this was Pedro’s fault. I live in the Bronx and Pedro’s originally from the Bronx, in fact living very close to Yankee Stadium, and he’s quite a fan. He’s also Spanish, Puerto Rican, and they have made tremendous contributions to the sport of baseball and then he had benefited from it, as well as, given the people in the Bronx proud of. He’s also working class, and bit fresh to America, being from an immigrant background.
Speaking of natives, you grow up in the South Bronx across the street from Yankee Stadium, work hard, get out of the South Bronx, move to Ohio, and become Cleveland sports fan, with Larry Doby your favorite player.
Many people get the time to read books, experience culture expand horizons. Many other people come home from work tired and probably have more work to do in the family, or whatever. Some things take time for some folks.
