The Dad’s Root Beer Plant on North Washtenaw Street where it dead-ends at the railroad tracks and the JFK Expressway. Homes, otherwise, lined the street right up to the plant, and, at night, the mass of red neon, meant for motorists and rail commuters, would light the block with its glow. Combined with the sound of bottles and ya got yourself an authentic industrial neighborhood brand.

Even in the eighties the sound of machinery during night shifts was common to many neighborhoods.

Of course all of this is heavily gentrified today, and even part of the plant was flipped into a residential building, including the tower that was originally used for storage.
