As Americans and the largest consumers of alcohol and drugs in the world, are we going to take responsibility? Human nature does not change. There will always be the black market as long as there are people. If, for instance, Americans drink 80% of the tequila made in Mexico, is Mexico exploiting us? Back in the 60s when tequila became popular did Mexican distillers have secret meetings about getting Americans hooked on tequila?
All the hard-liners on the border seem to think a fence will stop drugs when most of it comes through in bulk shipments by truck, plane, rail, ships and submarines.
It’s a great political talking point, though, drawing in as much as you can to your arguement, and using the wall thing as part of that.
Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama partook, with possibly Bush having more use, but, like many Americans, they do not continue with it. But for so many the first hit is like a key that opens a place you’ll never lock out again.
