The old Greenpoint Incinerator, in the background was closed as a polluter, and even more trash was transferred to barges which were used to take trash out to Fresh Kills.
A 2 billion dollar digestor was added in 2007, the incinerator was demolished and Fresh Kills was closed, so this kind of scene is long gone. Naturally, we complained about it for years, until, of course, gentrification arrived and we were kicked out and the new people got to breathe better air.
