UPPER MANHATTAN LANDSCAPE

Epigrams

From Fordham Hill in the Bronx, the Cloisters is fog-bound on a snowy day in Inwood in the Harlem River Valley.

Rockefeller bought Fort Tryon from another industrialist, Billings, and installed a mideval art collection and landscaped park overlooking the Hudson, and, coincidentally, the Bronx. He would donate it all to the city.

Inwood, the neighborhood lying at the base of the Cloisters to the Harlem River, was an Irish stronghold, that began to change in the eighties, and is now largely Dominican. The same with Fordham across the river in the Bronx.
