Englis Kills, or canal, that expanded the reach of Newtown Creek, was built for industrial transportation into the former center for New York’s heavy industry. It’s still a place of much manufacturng but without the heavy toxins. The pollution and industry was so great that its legacy will ooze out of the bulkheads and sediments of the Creek for a long time into the future.
