Mr. Daniels was a barber. Arthur Avenue was only two blocks long and it ended at 105th St., Mister Daniels worked at a barbershop on 105 about 3 miles north in the neighborhood called Glenville. He worked there his entire life.

Mr. Daniels, one of many friends i watched continually finding a way to keep going on all levels. Mr. Daniels liked to walk, his home on Arthur Avenue always the starting point, and he walked for hours. He walked this neighborhood which was pinned in by 105th St., Cedar Avenue and numerous railroad tracks to form a triangle, which slowly deteriorated until, when this shot was taken, I would estimate there was 22 houses left out of perhaps 150. On one side of Mr. Daniels home were three empty lots and on the other side was an abandoned house much like his own. Everything across the street was abandoned, and after that abandoned house next door there were about 10 empty lots.

One year after I took this shot Mr. Daniels was dead. The abandoned home next-door stood longer than Mr. Daniel’s home which was demolished in 2014. Mr. Daniels was actually sitting on quite a little jackpot because those were stayed in this desolate triangle would sell their formally fairly worthless homes at a premium because the Cleveland clinic, now, not far away, was ever expanding and influence the real estate market, so much, that, condominiums and apartments began to sprout across 105th St. Even an actual grocery store opened up at 105th and Euclid. So Mr. Daniels neighborhood in 2025 is on the verge of the same sort of development. No doubt those few folks who remain are holding tight in the city where such things were inconceivable just five years ago.

These original neighborhoods and their deterioration will never be thought of and never remembered. Unless there were pictures taken. That way you’d see what Mr.Daniels saw in his walking shoes.
