BRONX ROOTS 1

Epigrams

Exposed roots are all over the Bronx – it’s a function of many big trees and rocky, steep land. These are across the street from my building, in the back of a row of shops. Sitting above the cliff and all around are typical large west Bronx apartment buildings.

The roots were torn out completely in 2020, and even the rock formation was obliterated to make more room for a new building.

Thanks to geology, the Bronx can be explained by the theory of differential erosion, of the Fordham gneiss that is its bedrock and is over one billion years old.
