The view from a bedroom window on East 58th Strret. The view is a good one, if you like industry – scrap steel and metals being cut up with torches, that will eventually be sold to steel mills, like the one in the background. In fact the plumes of smoke and steam are form a basic oxygen plant, where scrap is mixed with molten iron to create more and better steel.
All is gone here except that mill in the background. All the homes and shops and even the scrapyard was taken out for a highway called the Opportuniuty Corridor in an emminent domain move by the city and county.
